The Ford Mustang undergoes a radical change for the coming year, retaining elements of the traditional silhouette but offering a complete update. The new 2024 Mustang will benefit from an increase in base power to 315 horsepower.
The big news, however, is the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, a track- ready Mustang designed for the most demanding of everyday drivers!
Physically, it looks mean while maintaining a certain discretion. It is to underline this relative discretion that it has been christened Dark Horse, in homage to its dark colour and the discreet not-so-discreet aerodynamic elements that make the car exceptional.
The Mustang Dark Horse goes further than its siblings, offering a unique front end with larger grille openings and open nostrils for better cooling. Its smoked headlights and taillights also promote a racy attitude. A rear spoiler, nameplates, prominent exhaust tips and a pronounced diffuser all set this car apart from other Mustangs.
To enhance its performance, the Dark Horse offers a performance package that relies on MagneRide magnetic suspension, 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero PZ4 tyres. It also adds stiffer shocks, thicker front and rear sway bars. Even without this package, all Dark Horses are equipped with Brembo high-performance brakes.
Like all new 2024 Mustangs, the Dark Horse features a completely redesigned interior inspired by stealth fighters. On the menu is a digitized instrument panel that combines a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster with a 13.2-inch touchscreen and the integration of the SYNC4 system.
The great thing about this Dark Horse, as with all 2024 Ford Mustangs, is the presence of an electronic handbrake with a handle, called the "Drift brake," which is used like a standard handbrake, but with the precision of electronic gears. An industry first.
In addition to 500 horsepower, the Dark Horse's engine offers up to 518 pound-feet of torque. The traditional Coyote has been modified with enhancements designed by the Ford Performance division.
These improvements include a uniquely balanced crankshaft and forged piston rods to handle higher cylinder pressures and piston speeds. This is the same technology used in the latest Shelby Mustangs.
The Mustang Dark Horse also features heavy-duty camshafts to meet track durability needs, including extended operation near its 7,500-rpm redline.
Basically, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse is a car that's equally at home on the track and on the road.
